Says Republicans treated the situation like a “dirty little secret.”
As the democrats rallied in seven cities across the state, Congressman Earl Pomeroy spent some time campaigning in Bismarck.
Prior to his trip, however, the congressman had been in Washington as the controversy surrounding Representative Mark Foley came to light.
Pomeroy says he was just as shocked that congressional leaders knew about the issue as he was about the story itself.
He says he’s pleased the ethics committee is investigating the case, and he hopes its findings will trigger some changes.
(Rep. Earl Pomeroy/ D-ND): “We need to get some answers to some very troubling questions. What was known, who knew it and when did they know it. And as far as I am concerned there need to be some very serious consequences for those entrusted in house leadership that just treated this as a dirty little secret instead of bringing it up for proper resolution.”
Funny how Pomeroy calls for an investigation into who knew what when, but then accuses Republicans of keeping a “dirty little secret.” In order to keep a secret one must know information, which means that Pomeroy has clearly already made up his mind about what Republicans knew. So why is he still calling for an investigation? Because this is all more about election year politics than anything else.
I wonder if Pomeroy is interested in finding out what people in his own party knew about the Foley situation and when. After all, if Democrats sat on the information until a key time in an election year they are every bit as bad as they’re making Speaker Hastert out to be.
I also like the “as Democrats rallied in seven cities across the state” remark. I was at one of those “rallies,” and believe you me it was no rally.
