This press release from the DC-based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities indicating a “news conference” they’re going to hold to criticize North Dakota ballot measure 2 (a 50% cut in personal income taxes for all North Dakotans, and a 15% tax cut for businesses) is pretty interesting.  Especially in light of past criticism from measure 2 opponents (like the editorial board of the Fargo Forum) about the measure’s backers being out of state.

I really don’t know why we need some Washington DC organization to come out here and lecture us about tax cuts.  The state’s got a $1 billion budget surplus, and projections are growing all the time.  We’ve got record-setting treasury balances.  North Dakotans are tired of high taxes.  Hell, both candidates for Governor have sensed which way the wind’s blowing and have proposed tax cut plans of their own.

Se cut taxes, North Dakotans enjoy a lightened tax burden and increased economic activity because of it, and a portion of the state budget surplus goes away.

This isn’t exactly rocket science.
