So today I finally took down my old 3x5 flag that has been hanging out front of my garage for the better part of a year. The poor thing was severely weather beaten and I should have taken it down months ago. I feel guilty for flying such a tattered old flag for so long, but I finally took care of that today.

When I say I took it down, I really mean I upgraded it. I bought a 100% cotton version of the old polyester one that I had. It looks great flying free and it makes me proud now every time I see it.

It occurred to me when I took down my old flag that I am completely unsure of how to properly dispose of said flag. What is the proper technique or procedure? I thought I heard a while ago that you are supposed to burn the flag, in a gracious manner, as a means of proper disposal, but I'm not completely sure.

So, WITHOUT looking it up online, do you know what I should do? I know that I could very easily google the answer to my problem, but that wouldn't be much fun. I want to know how many of you know proper flag etiquette...
