NPR has an amazing interview with the principal of an Indian charter school in Oakland California. Apparently that school was about to go down five years ago before this guy came in and turned things around.
His "radical" and "controversial" approach? He kicked multicultarlism to the curb and replaced it with math, science and language/spelling classes. If you want art projects and music lessons you stay after school
I know what you're thinking...what's so radical about concentrating on teaching things like math and science? Well in today's education environment it is radical and controversial, I guess.
You can listen to the whole interview here.
My favorite part is when the guy says that liberal thinking in education has "wiped out many more people than the Klan has."
