Now That We’ve Won In Iraq, What Can Obama Do To Make It Look Like A Loss?

News of our victory in Iraq has to be terribly inconvenient for Barack Obama, the media and the Democrats given that they declared the war lost ages ago and have refused to recognize any progress there since.  For Obama it’s a particularly troubling situation.

He’s not about to admit to being wrong about Iraq for the last several years (though I’d be happy to give him a hell of a lot of credit if he did), so what’s his options on Iraq going forward?  How can he structure policy to end the war without making it look like we were, you know, victorious?

My guess is that he’ll go for a precipitous, immediate withdrawal of troops.  My guess is that he’ll also try to break up any deal with the Iraqis for an on-going presence for American forces.

That way he can neutralize what few headlines about our victory in Iraq manage to slip into the media without admitting that we did, in fact, win the war.

The only stumbling block is: What happens when he pulls all the troops out and Iraq’s elected, representative government maintains the peace?  And Iraq remains a stable and democratic regime where there was once a thuggish, genocidal dictatorship?
