This is certainly an interesting development.

I’m not a fan of government monopolies, but there’s no denying that the state-controlled workers compensation agency has been good for North Dakota businesses for the last decade or so.  But, as with any state-controlled agency, that could change with the political winds.

It would certainly be nice to see certain interests in the state (I’m looking at you, Jasper Schneider) not be able to use the Workforce Safety and Insurance agency as a political football any more.  For too long WSI has been beaten around by a pinata by a cabal of labor interests who want WSI turned back into the gravy train for less-than-genuine injured workers and their lawyers that it was in the 1980’s and early 1990’s.
