This article from KXMC makes the point that North Dakota’s Democrat federal candidates have raised more, millions more, than their Republican challengers. Even Byron Dorgan, who isn’t even running this year, has raised a couple of hundred thousand dollars more than any given Republican candidate.
But what ticks me off about the article is the fact that they don’t bother to mention where the money is coming from. Over 93% of Kent Conrad’s millions have come from out of state contributors. Earl Pomeroy has received over 72% of his campaign contributions from out of state.
Both of their challengers, Dwight Grotberg and Matt Mechtel, have collected the majority of their money from in-state contributors.
Personally, I think this contrast in where these candidates get their money from is important. I think North Dakota voters ought to be made aware of it, but our media here in the state seems totally unwilling to do that. I don’t know why, but I think the omission does a grave disservice to voters in this state.
