The National Guard is currently running a conest to bring 540 kids to North Dakota to visit some of our historic areas. All the entrants have to do is submit an essay about the military significance of the Lewis and Clark expedition. They're selecting ten kids from every state and four territories.
The problem? Only 28 kids have entered.
Twelve of them are from North Dakota. And the cut-off date for entries is February 28th.
Which is kind of sad, really. North Dakota gets a bum rap a lot of the time. Our summers are usually pretty nice, and there really is a lot of beautiful scenery and interesting history here. If you know of any kids interested you should send 'em to this website for details on how to enter.
At this point they're pretty much guaranteed to win.
