Last night I posted about a New York Times article which accuses the Bush administration of making public documents from Saddam Hussein’s regime that could help the Iranians build a nuclear weapon. The article from the Times came out late last night, and when it did I missed this little tid-bit:
Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990’s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein’s scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.
A year away from an atom bomb. And this according to the New York Times, hardly a rag that’s in the bag for the Bush administration.
As I said last night, the Times is trying to hype this thing as a failure of the Bush administration, but in reality this revelation that Saddam was apparently so close getting a nuke is very supportive of the President’s decision to invade Iraq.
