New York Times Issues Another October Surprise

Amazing how media outlets like the New York Times actively seek to engage in “gotcha” politics right before national elections.  Today the Times has a front-page story about missing weapons in Iraq.

The innuendo being spread by the Times is that America-supplied weapons have been stolen by the insurgents and used against our own troops.  Of course, there’s no actual evidence of that (the report being quoted by the Times certainly doesn’t draw conclusions like that), but that won’t stop the Times from running with that angle anyway.

But all this should sound familiar to you.  After all, here we are just eight days before a national election.  This is usually about the time when the Times chooses to run some trumped-up “missing weapons” story.  Remember that it was just eight days before the 2004 election that the Times ran the story about the missing explosives from the al Qa’qaa weapons facility.

Something which turned out to be a total non-story, but that didn’t stop the Times from making some political hay out of it right before an election.

Expect the Demcorats and the usual suspects among the liberal loud mouths to pick this up and run with it (almost as though it were all coordinated or something), but I fully expect that this will be about as much of a non-story as the al Qa’qaa thing.
