Remember last month when the powers that be in the state said that we shouldn’t pass ND Measure 2 because then the legislature couldn’t get us “property tax relief.” Funny thing, after the measure was turned down legislative leaders aren’t so sure we’ll get what we were promised:

With an expected $1.2 billion state budget surplus in North Dakota, potential House and Senate leaders say they will consider such things next year as property tax relief and more money for education.

But the lawmakers say the state could face tough economic times down the road, especially if oil prices continue to fall and the effects of the national economic downturn move toward North Dakota.

What a fraud.  These are the same guys that were promising property tax relief if they had the money.  Now it sounds to me like they’re thinking about keeping the money.  After all if there’s an economic downturn you can’t expect our superiors in the public sector to participate.

This story was in the Jamestown Sun which is part of the Marcil empire.  And once again they get the story wrong.

Gov. John Hoeven has proposed a plan to cut property taxes by $300 million by giving local governments money to pay for school costs with an agreement that they lower property taxes.

Hoeven also would provide $100 million in income-tax relief and another $100 million in discretionary funding for education.

Governor Hoeven’s plan is to require the school districts to lower property taxes one time only.  He knows that after the first year they’ll be back raising the property taxes so that they’re as high as ever in a few years.  That’s John Hoeven’s sting.  Just like him saying that he’ll “provide” a $100 million in income tax relief by taking away a $115 million dollar income tax credit plan.

These guys all promised that if Measure 2 were defeated that we’d get a property tax relief.  We aren’t going to accept John Hoeven’s con.  Any property tax relief coming out of the legislature must be Permanent Property Tax relief.  Anything less is a fraud.
