And you know who I love? Jim Fuglie.
Why? Because his “Howard Dean of the prairie” schtick probably does more to elect Republicans in this state than anything the NDGOP has done in years.
North Dakota is a conservative state. Yeah, the members of our entire Congressional delegation are Democrats, but that’s more a testament to the effectiveness of the big-money contributions Conrad, Dorgan and Pomeroy get from their connections in Washington D.C. - combined with a complacent in-state media - than the actual policies those guys pass (though their pandering to the ag industry doesn’t hurt either). And remember that, aside from our people in D.C., this state is overwhelmingly run by Republicans. All but two state-wide offices are run by Republicans, and in the state legislature Republicans outnumber Democrats by a 2 - 1 margin.
The point is that Fuglie’s nostalgic ruminations about Keillor while linking to a column where the latter implies that those who voted for the terror detainee act are no better than Third Reich sympathizers - along with earlier screeds like the one where he had a flashback to his hippie roots and got all misty-eyed over a Neil Young song about impeaching the President - just aren’t in keeping with North Dakota values.
Again, this is a conservative state, and while the voters here may not always be happy with the President they voted for overwhelmingly in each of the last elections, they certainly aren’t ready to follow the likes of Jim Fuglie over the hill to far-left looney land where Nazi-comparisons are plentiful and screeches for impeachment ring from the hills.
