I am taking English Composition 101 as one of my first college classes. I love the class. It's interesting and the teacher is a card. She's of average height, stature, and looks. She seems to equate abortion to birth control and constantly discusses the common reasons for the legalization of abortion. She laments the lack of rights for the minorities regularly. She has stated that she likes to "do what feels good" as a way of life. She believes that higher education should be free to everyone. She also states that she defends the rights of others to hold differing opinions.

First, and foremost, I do not dislike this lady. She's friendly, fun, and entertaining. She holds little back in her discussions. That said, I have a problem with her using the forum to preach her positions. I have paid to be educated on English Composition. She is a professor of English Composition, not of Sociology or Politics. I have not paid to listen to a woman who, self admittedly, has been married "many, many times", espouse to me her views on world affairs and morality. Moreover, she educates young adults, and with this style of teaching, uses her position to promote a way of life that I think MANY adults would object to.

Being a professor is a JOB. An educator's JOB is to educate people on the topic you are PAID to teach. By espousing her political views during the classroom lecture she controls the debate and ceases it when there is a dissenting opinion voiced.

A few of her statements have caused me to wince. One such statement is that "higher education should be free." My major problem with this is that nothing is FREE. Someone will have to pay for it in some way or another. And FORCE will have to be used to get the other person or people to pay. A Minor problem I have with the statement is that most things that people get for FREE are not as respected as they are when people work for them. College kids on a free ride through school will not be as concerned about attending classes as they are if they have to shell out money for them.

Another of her statements that makes me cringe is her "do what feels good" lifestyle. She tells the women of the class to have "fun" or to have sex as much as possible, just use birth control. This sort of morality produces babies of single mothers. It is just this sort of view that creates parents that do not care enough for their child to turn off the TV when crap comes on the air. It is this type of thinking that leads to high divorce rates and broken families. It is this type of thinking that sparks the hatred of the Islamic world. It is this type of thinking that leads to people like Michael Jackson.

We have a number of problems in the US. The liability that is our college professors is one of them.
