From Kerry's speech last night:

The Vice President called me unfit for office last night. Well, I'll leave it up to the voters to decide whether five deferments makes someone more qualified to defend this nation than two tours of duty.

Wait a second, is he saying that he served two tours of duty in Vietnam? Because last time I checked he was only there for four months. That's not even one tour of duty. (See Update Below)

He also said this during his speech:

He's misled America's workers -- he told them his economic plan would create 6 million jobs. The truth is we've lost nearly 1.8 million since George Bush took office. He said his plan would create 266,000 jobs in Ohio. Instead Ohio has lost 230,000 jobs since he took office -- 112,000 jobs since the recession ended in November of 2001.

Associated Press article:

U.S. Economy Adds 144,000 Jobs in August

WASHINGTON - America's payrolls picked up in August, with the economy adding 144,000 jobs, slightly less than economists were forecasting and highlighting the slow and uneven recovery in the labor market that jobseekers have braved.

The unemployment rate dipped to 5.4 percent last month from 5.5 percent in July. But the drop in the jobless rate in August came as people left the work force for any number of reasons, the Labor Department reported Friday. Economists were predicting the jobless rate to hold steady in August.

The gain in payrolls was short of the 150,000 net jobs that economists were calling for. However, it represented the biggest jobs gain since May and marked the 12th month in a row that payrolls grew...

The economy has lost 913,000 jobs since Bush took office.

According to that article our unemployment rate is at 5.4%, a rate that is lower than the 5.6% rate that was considered low during Clinton's administration. Further, according to the article Kerry is doubling the number of jobs lost during Bush's administration. Considering the fact that during Bush's administration this country has gone through a major terrorist attack, two wars and a recession brought on by the collapse of the dot com industry losing 913,000 jobs doesn't seem that bad.

Especially considering the fact that the job market has improved every month for the last year.

I also found this part of Kerry's speech entertaining:

When it comes to getting gas prices under control, George Bush has misled America. America is more dependent than ever on Mid-East oil.

Bush made us more dependent on foreign oil? How's that again? Last time I checked Bush was the one in favor of more domestic petroleum drilling. Its the Democrats who are against that sort of thing.

Does Kerry plan on actually campaigning on the issues or is he just going to rely on exaggeration and misrepresentation to fool voters into electing him?

Well, maybe that is his plan. It sure worked for him in his military career.

Update:

I mistakenly stated that Kerry did not serve two tours of combat service. I was mistaken. He served one tour on the U.S.S. Gridley and one shortened tour on a swiftboat. So maybe a better answer is that he servied 1 and 1/2 tours.

Still, his point isn't a good one. He was in Vietnam for all of four months. Granted, Cheney wasn't there at all, but I don't see where those four months make Kerry any more suited hold office than Dick Cheney.
