Iran will cease cooperating with the UN nuclear watchdog if it refers the country's nuclear dossier to the Security Council, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said.
"There is no difference between informing the Security Council and referring (the case) to it," Mottaki said.
"In either case, if the dossier is sent to the Security Council, Iran will cease voluntary cooperation (with the International Atomic Energy Agency) from Saturday February 4."
And now they've been caught red-handed with documents for making an atomic bomb:
VIENNA, Austria – A document obtained by Iran on the nuclear black market serves no other purpose than to make an atomic bomb, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Tuesday.
The finding was made in a report prepared for presentation to the 35-nation IAEA board when it meets, starting Thursday, on whether to refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council, which has the power to impose economic and political sanctions on Iran.
You know, a part of me is almost glad that Iran has taken such a hard-line, radical stance on all of this. If they'd been a bit more reasonable, and bit more compliant with international demands, it woud be easier for some in the international community to write Iran off as a less serious situation than it really is. Iran is calling plenty of attention to itself, and that's maybe not such a bad thing.
It may spark real action from the members of the UN rather than action like the reams of toothless resolutions passed against Iraq that never made a lick of difference about anything.
We can only hope, I guess.
