Jim Geraghty from National Review and we had an interesting conversation about the elections. 

Everybody made a prediction about what the outcome is going to be.  Mine was this: I’m going to be very surprised if Republicans lose either house of Congress come November.  I think their majorities will be eroded a bit, but I think they’ll maintain control.  The reason I think that is because even though the public is upset with Republicans, they’re not exactly happy with Democrats either and I just don’t see the Dems taking control of both houses of Congress simply because they’re “the other guys.” I also think that the media is over-hyping the doom and gloom for the Republicans in this election.  Remember this is the same media that reported on hundreds of murders and rapes in the Super Dome during hurricane Katrina, yet when the clouds cleared and the rain stopped falling it turns out they had exaggerated the situation ridiculously.

I think once the vote are counted up after November 7th we’ll find that the media exaggerated the GOP’s election woes as well.

Personally, I think it would be perfect if the Republicans lost some seats but didn’t lose control of either house of Congress.  That would be just enough to send them a message to get their collective acts together without putting Nancy Pelosi in charge so that she can raise our taxes.
