Here it is again, in case you missed it:
As I noted then, I've been skeptical about Stone's ability to protray the vents of 9/11 without injecting his far, far left politics into the plot. Stone also has a reputation for giving credence to a lot of crackpot theories surrounding the historical events he covers in his films (see: JFK, and with all the raving about government plots and Bush administration conspiracies surrounding 9/11 I just knew that Stone was going to pick up on one of those.
But apparently that's not how the movie turned out. Cal Thomas, a staunch conservative, loved the film and described it thusly:
It is one of the greatest pro-American, pro-family, pro-faith, pro-male, flag-waving, God Bless America films you will ever see.
What? Oliver Stone, who hangs out with and praises Fidel Castro? Oliver Stone, who indulges in conspiracy theories and is a dues-paying member of the Hollywood left? Yes, THAT Oliver Stone.
That's certainly not what I was expecting, but if this is indeed an accurate description of the movie (I'll reserve personal judgment until I see it) I'm more than willing to give Stone credit for putting partisanship aside for the sake of portraying an important, if tragic, event in American history with reverance and accuracy.
