Here’s something I haven’t heard anyone ask the Dems. If they should get their way and we pull our troops out of Iraq, what happens next in that country and the middle east in general?
What happens next when the Iraqis are left on their own to defend their new government against terrorists and insurgent armies funded by Syria and Iran and Islamic extremist groups around the globe? What’s our strategy for preventing Iraq from backsliding into tyranny and becoming another terror-sponsoring rogue state like it was under Saddam? I haven’t heard anyone address that.
And once we’re out of Iraq, what’s our new strategy for neutralizing the terrorist threat that springs from the middle east? Once the terrorists aren’t expending resources on fighting our troops in Iraq they’ll be ready to rededicate themselves in earnest to attacks against the west. So what are we going to do to stop them? Work through the UN? Please. That milquetoast organization puts governments responsible for mass genocide and imprisoning political dissenters on the flippin’ Human Rights Council and can barely manage pass more than a mild rebuke of a bunch of crazy Iranian mullahs trying to develop nuclear weapons.
Our problems in the middle east won’t go away once we leave Iraq. In fact, should Iraq backslide into a rogue state after we leave (and I believe that awful tragedy would be all but inevitable if we did) our problems in the middle east would get remarkably worse. So what are we going to do?
Those calling for withdrawal from Iraq before our mission is complete should have to answer this question seriously, honestly and in depth before their calls for withdrawal are honored.
So let’s hear it you liberals. What happens after withdrawal?
