I have just received word that tomorrow morning, Senator Bill Frist will announce that a constitutional amendment giving Congress the power to ban the physical desecration of the American flag will receive a floor vote in the United States Senate. The vote will occur during the last week of June.
It seems as though with key elements of the President's domestic agenda, like tax and Social Security reform, stalled there are more important things to be focusing on then attempts to ban a specific sort of free expression in hopes of pandering to voters.
I don't like to see Old Glory torched any more than any other red-blooded American, but the simple fact of the matter is that it is free expression. Free speech. Just as I have the right to fly the stars and stripes from my front porch my idiot neighbor down the street has the right to burn it in his back yard.
That's the breaks. Free speech means free speech, now let's move on to something more important.
