And we wonder why good people won’t run for office. As a lifelong Republican, I am sickened by the totally uncalled for attacks and innuendos being thrown at Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., regarding the so-called “mortgage-gate.” Are we so sick as a society that we have to jump on every rumor or allegation, believe it to be true, and then conveniently supply all the missing facts or explanations from our own imaginations, and in the most negative and damaging way to the victim or the rumor or innuendo? I thought we were still living in America, where the presumption of “innocent until proven guilty” had some meaning.
Wow, go ahead and read the other two paragraphs because it gets even more bizarre. The writer compares the scandal with the Romans watching Christians being thrown to the Lions and that there was only one perfect man to walk the Earth.
What in the world does that have to do with anything.
I find it amazing that the Forum can run a shrill letter like that without ever covering the facts in the case. Republican State Chair Gary Emineth summed it up nicely in this post. Why is it that the Forum printed the screed they did while not actually covering the issues raised by Emineth? (Which have all been explored in depth on Say Anything.)
Could it be that there IS not way to defend Conrad when he’s used at least three different stories to cover how he met or didn’t meet Angelo Mozilo?
Could it be that the Forum is no way no how going to cover the fact (not innuendo) that Kent Conrad waived the budget rules on a massive mortgage bailout that will benefit his friends at Countrywide?
These are legitimate issues that should be, must be known and debated by North Dakotans. Why the coverup Forum Communications? Why don’t you want us to know what Kent Conrad is doing with the power that we North Dakotans have given him. Why is the conduct of a North Dakota Senator fit for national news but not for news media within the state?
What else aren’t you telling us?
