The alleged solidarity of the scientific community has been one of the main stallworths of the evolution proponents. This wall of scientific solidarity has apparently developed some ever-largening cracks as is indicated in the article
Canadian scientists want out of Darwin's 'rut'.
Nine university professors and others with science or engineering PhDs have added their names to an American petition that voices skepticism about the theory of evolution. The list was posted on the Internet this week.
Following the links, the list of skeptical scientists, which number over 500, is located here. The list is world wide and contains many biologists. The scientific skepticism can be summed up in this joint statement
"We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life," the preamble says. "Careful examination of the evidence of Darwinian theory should be encouraged
Why evolution should not be challenged like other scientific theories boggles my mind because the very nature of science is objective discovery and rediscovery. A scientific principle is never absolute because it may be modified or superceded by some later discovery. Evolution should be particulary sensitive to continuous scientific review because it is neither obvious nor practical unlike other scientific principles such as gravity and electro-magnetism which can easily be demonstrated in the home or laboratory. A fervent pseudo-religious belief in evolution does little service to the scientific community as a whole.
