European Union Spending $152 Million To Re-Invent The Wheel

The politicians in the EU have decided to spend $152 million of their constituent’s tax dollars on developing a rival for Google.

The problem is that we’ve already got a Google.  Why does the EU need to develop another one, if that’s even possible?

I’m all for competition, but why not let the market develop a competitor for Google?  And if the market doesn’t produce a Google rival, does that not indicate that Google is doing a good job of meeting demand for its services as is?
