Democrats Push Cap And Trade Bill Out Of Committee Despite Republican Boycott

Remember that post I wrote the other day about Senator Boxer holding a committee meeting all by herself?  Republicans were boycotting the meeting, refusing to allow the bill to advance there any further until time was given for a full economic review of the bill.

Well, Democrats don’t want a full economic review of the bill.  Because they don’t want you to know what this bill will do to the economy.  So they’d rather just cram it through whether Republicans participate in the process or not.

Washington (CNN) - A Senate committee Thursday approved a major climate change bill despite a boycott by all of the panel’s seven Republican members.

Democrats on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee voted 10-1 to send the measure to the full chamber. Because of the Republican boycott of the committee hearing that began Tuesday, the panel was unable to amend the bill.

Committee rules require at least two minority party members to be present to conduct regular business, including amending bills before it. However, an exception allowed the committee to vote on the overall bill as long as a majority of its members were present.

The committee’s Republicans were demanding a full Environmental Protection Agency analysis of the bill’s economic impact before committee debate. Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, the panel’s ranking Republican and an outspoken opponent of the climate change legislation, warned that Democrats would imperil future work by the committee if they passed the bill on their own.

So why isn’t there time for the EPA to develop an economic impact analysis before this bill passes?  What is the hurry?

Liberals will no doubt tell you about the “environmental crisis” and the need to “act now” before it’s “too late,” but the reality is that they just don’t want you to know what this bill is going to cost you and what it’s going to do to the prices of everything you buy.

They’d rather just make the bill law and deal with the political fallout after the fact.

It’s like that saying: “It’s easier to beg forgiveness than it is to ask permission.”  The problem is, these idiots are supposed to act with the will of the people.  And it’s hard for the people to express their will when they don’t know what’s going on and aren’t afforded the opportunities to gather information and educate themselves.

This bill would amount to a tax on everything in our economy.  A cost that will drive up costs and perpetuate economic stagnation.  Which is exactly what the Democrats don’t want you to know.
