By now, everyone knows who will be writing and directing tax policy if the Democrats take the House next Tuesday: Charlie Rangel.

No matter what he says, he’ll repeal all of President Bush’s tax cuts.  How?  By not bringing up the renewal bill when the Bush tax cuts are set to expire.  Or, he’ll just flat out introduce a bill that will raise taxes.

[H]e also has never seen a tax cut he didn’t loathe or a tax increase he didn’t love. He voted against President Reagan’s tax cuts, he voted against President George W. Bush’s tax cuts, and he voted in favor President Clinton’s tax increase.

As Ways and Means chairman, he would block any effort to make President Bush’s tax cuts permanent. That would enact tax increases by default because all of Bush’s tax cuts are scheduled to expire by 2010.

In September, Rangel conceded to Bloomberg news service that he “cannot think of one” Bush tax cut that merits renewal.

He’s a lot like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in that all three of them can be quite funny, they like to rhyme when they talk, and they’re all far to the left.  Don’t let his wit fool you… our taxes will go up.

North Dakota’s lone Representative Earl Pomeroy, if re-elected will be just another cog in the tax raising machine.  So much of the liberal hatred of George Bush stems from his tax cutting policy.  Mr. Pomeroy, you see, is also a member of the Ways and Means Committee (tax creating committee).  Mr. Pomeroy’s vote could be a swing vote on that committee because there could very well be some tough votes.  The problem is that he’ll simply be a rubberstamp for Mr. Rangel.  Because tax policy is such a big issue in the Democratic agenda, raising taxes will be the second thing to do on their agenda.  If there is any issue where a Speaker Pelosi will crack her whip, it will be tax policy.  Mr. Pomeroy will not be able to stand up to her.  He’s already voted “No” on making Bush’s tax cuts permanent.

I hope all North Dakotans keep this in mind next Tuesday.  A vote for Earl Pomeroy may very well be a vote for Charlie Rangel… and a big hit to your income.  A vote for Mat Mechtel is a vote for smaller government.
