Western News - The owner of the Element Nightclub says their controversial Sextreme Makeover" contest is nothing to get upset about.

The contest offers a woman a chance to win at least $3,000 towards breast implants after being randomly selected from a pool of 40 walk-in entrants.

I think most people realize that this is a promotion and it's just a fun event," Florio Vassilakakis told the Penticton Western News.

We do all sorts of events at our club. This is just a takeoff of the TV show Extreme Makeovers. This is not anything that outrageous."

Sextreme Makeover has brought an outcry from parts of the community that feel a contest like this suggests women get surgery for what they may consider their flaws.

It encourages women who are not happy with their body to seek out surgical ways of perfecting their body - whatever their idea of perfection is - instead of learning how their own bodies are beautiful as they are," said Christine Schwarz of the Penticton and District Women's Centre.

The club owner sees things differently.

I don't believe these women are lacking self-esteem; a perfectly confident woman may want bigger breasts, a perfectly confident woman puts on makeup to make herself look better," said Vassilakakis.

The entire women's movement is based on a woman's right to choose what happens to her body."

Well, he's got a point.
