ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - The United States and its allies have moved closer to capturing Osama bin Laden in the last two months, a top U.S. counterterrorism official said in a television interview broadcast Saturday.
"If he has a watch, he should be looking at it because the clock is ticking. He will be caught," Joseph Cofer Black, the U.S. State Department coordinator for counterterrorism, told private Geo television network.
Asked if concrete progress had been made during the last two months -- when Pakistan has arrested dozens of terror suspects including some key al-Qaida operatives -- Black said, "Yes, I would say this."
And what's the left's response to the news that we may be getting close to capturing the man responsible for murdering thousands of Americans? They question the timing of such a capture. About which Jeff Goldstein had this to say:
Funny how a certain breed of Democrat can spend days excoriating Zell Miller for his histrionic indictment of partisan powerlust at the expense of national security--only to turn right around and greet rumors of an impending Usama bin Laden capture as some kind of electoral tragedy borne of carefully crafted GOP machinations.
I mean, I thought these people wanted UBL caught? In fact, to listen to Kerry and Edwards and the parade of Donk flacks they've surrounded themselves with tell it, the War on Terror can't be won--indeed, the war is scarcely being fought--unless and until UBL is captured or killed. I should think this rumor would have them ecstatic.
Instead, they seem rather glum and cynical. Which, why is that, I wonder...?
I don't wonder. Kerry and his Democrat cohorts are for anything that will get them in office and Republicans out. Even if it means rooting against the capture of one of the most murderous and ruthless men ever to walk the face of the planet.
