McCain may not have mentioned the middle class during the debate (not sure why that’s such a bad thing, but whatever), but I’m more interested in some of the things Obama didn’t say.

Like, for instance, how his tax hike on the richest personal income tax brackets will hit small business owners across the nation who file their business taxes as personal income.  Small business owners create jobs, and Obama’s tax hike will make it harder for them to do that.

Or how his proposed tax cut for 95% of Americans is, for about half the population, really just a one-time rebate check in the mail like the one we all got earlier this year.  History shows those rebates have a marginal impact on the economy that’s short-lived.

And why didn’t Obama talk about how corporations, which he also wants to target for higher taxes, deal with the tax burdens they’re forced to shoulder by passing expenses on to their customers?  Meaning that a corporate tax hike is really a tax hike for every American who buys goods or services from a corporation.  Which is pretty much all of us.

Personally, I don’t really care to hear McCain talk about the middle class.  What I want is for Obama to explain to us how, exactly, his tax-and-spend policies are going to make this country and its smarting economy better.
