You can say that he was probably going to win anyway, but he certainly seems to have appreciated the help.

The question remains: Why didn’t Obama head down to Georgia to help out Martin?  By all appearances The One’s absence from the ballot had a pretty tragic impact on Martin’s vote tally.  Some will say that Obama just didn’t want to hitch himself to a losing cause (Chambliss did almost win in the original election) but I still think it’s because Democrats don’t really want a filibuster-proof majority.
