Not the right move, in my humble estimation.

What’s funny is that I’ve had some interaction with Centcom in the past, and my experience was 100% the opposite of Patterico’s.  PR people from Centcom have probably sent me a dozen or so emails over the last 6 months complimenting me on my blog, encouraging me to visit their website and asking me if I’d like to be on their email list.  Each time I’ve replied thanking them for their interest in my blog and telling them yes, I would like to be on their email list.

Each of my replies went unacknowledged by Centcom, and a week or so later I’d get another email from another PR person that was pretty much a duplicate of the one before it.

Perhaps if the folks at Centcom, who are doing an important job, were a little more efficient in their communications with bloggers they’d have more time to field inquiries from folks like Patterico.
