And for him, that enemy is Republicans. Naturally.
WASHINGTON (CNN)—Democrats will aggressively investigate pre-Iraq war intelligence failures if they win back the Senate, a Democratic leader said Friday.
While releasing a report on U.S. contracting problems with the Iraq war—which he called “the most significant waste, fraud and abuse in the history of the country,” Senate Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Byron Dorgan said Democrats will hold “aggressive oversight hearings” on pre-war intelligence, contracting, and a other issues related to the war.
“There’s no question that we will finally understand what happened,” with intelligence failures, the North Dakota Senator said.
This is what we’re going to get if we elect Democrats: Endless revenge hearings aimed at undermining the Bush administration and the war effort in Iraq. As our soldiers fight and die to complete our mission in Iraq, Democrats will be here at home will force Congress to spend the time they could be using to figure out how to win in Iraq re-hashing a pre-war intelligence issue that is three years old. Because it’s not like pre-war intelligence is a dead horse that has been beaten into a mush over the last few years or anything.
As an added bonus, Democrats (if in charge) will choke off funding for the war in Iraq until our troops are forced to come home with their tails between their legs in a retreat not all that dissimilar from Vietnam.
Because that’s what they want. Another Vietnam.
Why? Because it would be bad for Republicans, of course.
As one of Byron Dorgan’s constituents I can tell you that there is no way in hell he’d be making proclamations like this if he were up for re-election this year instead of his colleague Kent Conrad. Which should tell us something about public support for what the Democrats want to do if put in office.
