Apparently some fashionistas thought it would be a good idea to feature the garment which is the symbol for oppression of women across the middle east at a Norwegian fashion show.

The Associated Press captions the series of photographs from the show thusly:

The burqa is the wardrobe of choice for many Muslim women. It is worn over a woman’s daily clothing, usually covering her from head to toe. The wardrobe of choice for many Muslim women?

Yeah.  Right.  I’m sure there are a lot of women in the middle east choosing to wear head-to-feet garments even in the dead heat of the middle eastern summer.  It probably has nothing to do with the fact that these women are often beaten and/or killed for showings parts of their body from under the burka.

This fashion show is offensive.  The people responsible for it may as well have been trying to give the David’s stars Jews in Nazi Germany were forced to wear a “makeover.”
