So the Democrats have apparently been pushing a bill through the House that would suspend Congressional pensions for all former House members convicted of a felony.  Clearly this is aimed at denying corrupt politicians like Duke Cunningham payments for their crooked service in Congress, and rightfully so.  Why should someone who disgraced themselves and their office get the benefit of a cushy retirement plan courtesy of the taxpayers they ripped off?

The bill, as one would hope, is getting broad bi-partisan support in the House, so it has been placed on the suspension calendar for tonight because everyone expects it to pass with the 2/3’s majority necessary to pass a bill with the House rules suspended.

One problem though.  The Democrats managed to sneakily change the effective date of this bill to January 1st...2009.

So, are some Democrats planning on getting convicted of felonies this year?  Shall we start calling this the William Jefferson bill?
