SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - BALCO officials allegedly told US federal investigators that it provided San Francisco giants slugger Barry Bonds with steroids, American newspapers reported.
Court documents obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle described Victor Conte as saying Bonds regularly visited his lab for steroids. Conte has denied the allegation and Bonds has repeatedly denied using steroids.
The BALCO statements described how Bonds complained about the quality of one of the steroid products BALCO was providing.
"Bonds has received the 'clear' and the 'cream' from BALCO on several occasions," the documents quoted BALCO vice-president James Valente as saying.
Valente allegedly went on to say that Bonds does not like how the 'clear' product makes he feel.
I think the homeruns for each season it can be proven Bonds took steroids should be wiped from the record books. After that, he should not be allowed to play again until he can pass a drug test. The same goes for the other players involved in this including (though it pains me to say this) Jason Giambi.
Further, MLB has got to instill a drug testing policy requiring all players to be tested on a regular basis. If the Player's Association doesn't like it, too bad. There are hundreds of thousands of talented players in the minors and playing abroad who can take the place of the current players.
