Sherry Zeman donated $100 to the [East Grand Forks Minnesota School] district Thursday and is challenging others to do the same.
A district referendum that failed by 23 votes Tuesday would have collected $108 in property taxes per $100,000 in home value. The district stood to get $1.25 million to help maintain services, with 40 percent from local taxes and 60 percent from the state.
Aanenson and two organizers of a group in support of the referendum, Gary Jones and Rebecca Gottberg, each said they plan to match Zeman’s donation.
1,629 people voted to raise property taxes in East Grand Forks. I’m sure nobody would vote to raise taxes on everyone if they weren’t willing to pay that amount regardless, right:
Since that donation, the board has received more checks. A total of 14 checks totaling about $2,100 were sent.
Wow, where are the other 1,614 people who voted for it. Why is it that liberals are willing to FORCE other people to do what they won’t do voluntarily?
It’s the same thing with Universal Health Coverage. There are probably 100 million people that want the government to provide Health Care to everyone. That many people could make a serious dent in the uninsured population if they banded together and formed a charity. But they don’t. Why because they want the government to force SOMEONE ELSE to pay for their good deeds.
