Amanda a/k/a Hot Abercrombie Chick has responded to the hoax allegations:

Yesterday, after my absence from blogging for a few days to work on the final drafts of some essays, I noticed the whole set of hoax allegations when Kevin from WizBang emailed me. I am thoroughly amused, despite my suspicion that some lonely guy/s cooked up the whole 'hoax' thing in an attempt to get me to send them pictures. I wouldn't be surprised at some "write Hot Abercrombie Chick on your chest, in whipped cream" requests in the near future. Sorry to disappoint.

But I must thank whoever is responsible, along with all the websites that continue to spread the rumors--I appreciate the traffic. I was not the one who sent the email/s that got all of this started, however. I might have been tempting if I'd realized that this hoax of a hoax would draw some much attention. It would have been a genius marketing strategy, and if I was that good I might change my major to business (I finally declared philosophy by the way, so it's official). But it seems that everyone else is advertising for me now, so I suppose I don't have too much to complain about.

I'd like to say that I knew it from the start, but that wouldn't exactly be true. I was a little confused about the whole thing. I could see where somebody would think a hoax like this is funny, but would that person have the patience to churn out post after post covering a wide variety of philosophical topics just for the sake of keeping the hoax alive? Doubtful, especially given the fact that whoever would have been behind the hoax wasn't getting anything out of it. Sure Amanda's blog gets a lot of traffic, but is that enough of a reward for the effort? Not for me it wouldn't be.

Amanda's post isn't exactly incontrovertible proof, but I'm willing to take her word for it. Why? Because I haven't seen anything convincing enough to make me believe that she is a hoax. All I've seen to this point is a whole lot of rumor and cynicism. Honestly, I don't really care who she is. I've enjoyed the posts and the discussions on her blog. I've enjoyed them so much that I will soon be hosting Amanda's blog, and am proud to do so. Amanda, whatever else she may be, is a fine blogger with important things to say.

Some out there will say that Amanda is only getting as much attention as she does because she is young and attractive. Maybe that's true, I'm not sure I'm qualified to say. This asshat seems to think that I've offered Amanda hosting as a way to endear myself to her in a romantic way. Let me be the first to say that I am not so naive as to think that I could entice a romance between myself and an attractive young coed with blog hosting. If only it were so easy...

But alas, this North Dakotan is already taken by an attractive young girl who actually lives in my hometown. Sorry Amanda, it just wasn't meant to be.
