Well, perhaps calm isn't the word, but it looks like today's day of protests went by without any major events.

Don Myers was out and about on the streets tonight and reports back a positive experience.

BTW, the cops were there in force---and they were great! They directed traffic with great skill and professionalism, and as far as I know there were no arrests. I made it a point to say to several cops "I hope you guys get a contract soon," and pointed out that Sen. Kerry is a lot more pro-union than Dubya.

While Don's thoughts about the presidential election having anything at all to do with New York City's contractual problems with its police department are a little misguided (I think that's Mayor Bloomberg's problem) I'm glad to hear that his group was able to accomplish what they set out to do.

Matt Margolis reported that a Barnes and Noble had to be evacuated due to a suspicious package, but it looks like it turned out to be a false alarm and thankfully nobody was hurt.

Lets hope this trend continues. Lets hope that the demonstrators get the opportunity to say whatever it is they want to say and that the Republicans are able to hold their convention with little distraction.

Update:

Ryan Sager has some good photos up of the protests from this weekend.
