Jonah Goldberg reacts:

I guess Lierberman would have been good enough to run the government if something bad happened to Gore [Lieberman was Gore's running mate in 2000]. But he's not obviously the best qualified to be the junior senator from Connecticut, even though he had the same job when Gore tapped him in 2000.

It's so strange to see the Democrats backing away from Lieberman, especially when it's clear that he'll probably win re-election in Connecticut regardless of whether he runs as a Demcorat, Republican or Indepenent.

Lieberman represents where the Democrats should be at as a party. He is still a liberal on most issues, but isn't inclined to putting what is best for the country above what is best for his party and isn't so deranged by the Bush presidency that he can't admit when the President gets something right.

This move away from Lieberman by national Democrats is yet another indicator of the party's shift to the left and further out of the mainstream.
