The Volokh Conspiracy:

As the War in Iraq approaches its third anniversary on March 20, 2006, U.S. military deaths in Iraq have just passed another grim milestone. The worst month of U.S. military deaths in Vietnam was May 1968: 2,316 lives. The second worst month in Vietnam was February 1968: 2,293 lives.

According to the website ICasualties.org, which tracks U.S. military deaths in Iraq, the total U.S. military deaths in Iraq since March 20, 2003 is 2,317 lives, one more than the worst month in Vietnam.

Iraq is not Vietnam, and I don't care how the left/media care to spin it the fight to liberate Iraq and leave it in the hands of a democratically-elected government has been an overall triumph for this country. We are accomplishing the goals we set out to accomplish and are doing so in a manner which, by historical standards, has been wildly successful.

Yeah, I know. Conventional wisdom right now is that Iraq is a quagmire. That it was a mistake and we never should have gone. Well to hell with conventional wisdom. Looking at the facts, not the media's version of reality, I do not see how anyone can conclude that we are doing anything other than winning.
