Well, yes, he has a point, but I doubt it’s getting to the right people. Unfortunately, it only takes a few million viewers/readers/listeners to wreak this kind of havoc. Hell, it takes only a couple of million regular viewers to make Bill O’Reilly the most viewed talking head in cable news. So, let’s pretend that 10 times that amount are hungry for OJ/Brittany/Paris gossip. That’s 20 million. That’s only %6.67 (20M / 300M) of the population of the U.S. And even if we generously factor for children at a third of the population, that’s still only %20 who want to watch this crap. And let’s not forget that most of these cable news channels are viewed outside of the U.S. as well.
So, the point is, there may be a plurality or even a majority of Americans who are turned off by celebrity rumor mongering, but there are enough who watch that crap to overrule the larger audience.

I’ve always said, subscribers of People magazine should be disqualified from voting.
Yes I know, a largely pointless gesture… those people don’t get out and vote—they might miss Oprah.
