Wounded soldiers should get extra bonuses, end of discussion.

Seems as though the soldiers could do with a union.

(Washington, DC) — Injured combat veterans would receive full payment of any re-enlistment or retention bonuses, even if they are unable to fulfill their service obligation, under a bill introduced by Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa.
the full bonus would be paid to a veteran within 30 days of his separation from active duty if he was unable to continue serving as a result of combat injury or illness. This would not change the military’s policy of denying full bonuses to those unable to fulfill their service obligation for other reasons.
This little ditty, a 5-13 discharge, pre-existing personality disorder, is offered troops. Sign on and you get no disability benefits.
Like being refused medical treatment for a “pre-existing” condition.
more than 22,500 soldiers have been dismissed due to personality disorder in the last six years.
LOL..what is that, like a male mood swing? Since when is it so easy to get out of the service.. I know someone who came home due to home sickness and just couldn’t do it. Is that a personality disorder too?
BTW.. I consider it pretty lame to negate the sign up bonus for physically injured soldiers regardless of their time served.

I’d be willing to bet a dollar to a donut that the clown asking a GI to return money paid for re-enlistment is a flaming Liberal! A bonus is paid for ‘special performance’ and re-enlisting fulfills that. There is no contractual basis for a return of any part of the money paid. If the government chooses to iterpret otherise, maybe they should read the law. One sided contracts are not legal!

First, anyone that might be so petty and stupid as to want the enlistment or reenlistment bonus returned for any combat related injury is a BASTARD and that includes every legislator or member of any administration supporting such actions!
Next, if they do not serve out their full enlistment because of emotional reasons, unless that condition can be clearly, objectively related to combat duty with a good record of doing their duty before such a problem arises, then they should have to pay back any and all enlistment or reenlistment bonus, with no pro-rating. Why? In some cases this makes the miltary and the government guilty of subsidizing cowardice, yellow belly syndrome, and in some cases some soldiers will just pretend such emotional injuries to get out early because they changed their mind. Too bad, tough shit, return the money. Although, this government is fairly incapable of getting back any school loans, so don’t hold your breath any soldier would ever pay any money back.
Last, “Wounded soldiers should get extra bonuses, end of discussion.” Bullshit! They deserve lifetime care, help with education, job placement and as required extra help to support their families until they get back on their feet and able to provide a decent level of care. But, I am absolutely opposed to any money being paid for war injuries, not the least of which if the money is attractive enough we will be up to our butts in self inflicted wounds. Also, the idea of paying extra money for people that volunteered and in the performance of their duties have been wounded, seems to say just doing your job is worth extra rewards, wherein in my generation people did not expect any rewards or even compliments for just doing their job, just doing what is right, that was considered their minimum responsibility for the money they accepted.

Dollars and donuts are close to equal now.
As I posted above
the military’s policy of denying full bonuses to those unable to fulfill their service obligation for other reasons.
That’s the way they do it.

Troops get disability , they don’t get paid for injuries.
Neiman you demonstrate the BASTARD attitude.
if the money is attractive enough we will be up to our butts in self inflicted wounds.
Besides the fact that a self inflicted wound is a courts martial offense, full disability payments mean a troop is immensley
screwed up .
Full disability is $44k a year.
There are bean counter BASTARDS who see
their duty to deny payments to the deserving. They wear military uniforms.

These beaurocrats need a beating. I was so pissed when I heard about them asking for the signing bonus back this morning. Total bullshit. Imagine if an employer had a worker who got their arm, leg, eye, etc blown off or severly damaged while doing their job? Do you think they would have to give back a starting bonus!!! They would pay the worker a crap load for the injury they sustained while on the job. Bush himself needs to say this crap is stopping now!!!

WOOF: Well my anti-Semitic, homosexual hating friend, there have been many self inflicted wounds in the past century and nary a courts martial among them. They just get cashiered out. Plus, in our day and age when people sell their private lives and wicked behavior for money, what’s a little bullet in the foot if the price is right?
DBdowner: Bureaucrats rule the world and screw up a lot of lives, as I said I cannot imagine someone so stupid as to actually ask for the bonus back from a wounded soldier. I think they should at least do it in person and on television, don’t you? Can’t you just see them tarred and feathered before the weather forcast?
