First of all, what the hell have you got against gay sheephearders? What has the homosexual bovidea caretaking community ever done to you?
Seroiously, tho’---this kind of generalized Hollywood bashing might be red meat for the knee-jerk conservative, holy roller, Target-is-part-of-a-conspiracy-against-Christmas crowd, but it really doesn’t hold much water.
And let’s not forget good ol’ true blue American porn! Yay porn!

You want artisty and intellectualism, Dave? YOU pay for it.
Most intellectuals I know are elists losers that look down on people like me because I don’t understand Milton and Shakespeare. The fact that they don’t understand a simple differential equation, basic physics or even understand something as simple as engineering statics never prevents them from believing they are intellectually superior to me.
Movies, like most fine art, was invented as ENTERTAINMENT not art for arts sake. It’s only in the last century that art no longer was designed to entertain.

So you can take your gay sheepherder, noble communist supporting reporters, big-business is evil, Americans are hopelessly and inherently corrupt and violent and unfaithful movies and go to Cannes where at least the Parisian set will love you. But that won’t exactly pay the bills, will it?
No, I’m with Bruce: Directors should stop remove any sense of artistry or intellectualism from their films and replace it with crassly commercial films with no challenging ideas, unexpected plot developments, or unhappy endings. Screw Scorcese, Godard and Lynch; give me my Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay!!!
The reason Americans aren’t going to as many films is the same reason they’re not reading Shakespeare and Milton. And pundits like Tammy Bruce are apologists for this anti-intellectualism. Unbelievable.

I’m with JFH on this one. Don & Dave, If Hollywood wants to only produce movies that impress the so-called elitist intellectuals, they should be willing to pay the price and stop their not-so-intellectual childish whining.

Actually, we look down on you for a whole host of reasons. You should hear the things we say about you at our sexy parties.
On the other hand, Robert Heinlein once said (and I’m paraphrasing here): “People who cannot do math are not people. They are at best semi-tolerated subhumans who have learned to drink from a cup and not mess the carpet.”
On the gripping hand, Heinlein said a lot of things, some of it brilliant but a lot of it bullshit. Thats why we never invited him to our sexy parties.

LOL, Don… and you WOULD have to copy and paste my typo of “elitist” wouldn’t you! Heinlein, being a fellow Navy alum, would say something like this. After all, at USNA even the English Majors have to take chemistry, physics, engineering and higher level math courses… but we didn’t have to read Paradise Lost in English 101, fortunately.

Heh. Don thinks that he is an “intellectual”. Makes me wonder why he can’t form an argument without judicious use of insults and little substance.

I really hadn’t given it that much thought.
The reason I don’t go to the theater, is I enjoy watching the movies at home on my wide screen TV, with Dolby Digital surround sound and theater seating.
I don’t have to drive, waste gas, and spend inflated prices for refreshments. I can start the movie at anytime, and even stop and rewind if I miss something or just want to see it again.
I also don’t feel so ripped off if I don’t like the movie.

Don’t wanna see a movie about gay cowboys eating pudding? You can see a documentary about a dirty joke, a bloated fantasy epic, a docudrama about news programs in the 50s, or a superhero slugfest.
And let’s not forget good ol’ true blue American porn! Yay porn!
