It couldn’t be that they are trapped in a stagnant socialist economic system with no upward mobility.  They are not only poor, they have no hope.  Their religion also believes that profit, doing business and freedom of choice are evil, which certainly doesn’t help.  Poverty is curable in a free enterprise economic system.
