Sounds like the North Dakota State Fair. I was on a ride once called the Enterprise, waiting for it to start, looked over at the motor, and it was spurting oil. I enjoyed the ride, but it made me a little hesitant to get on another one. And then what about the ones that get stuck on for like a half hour.
I would also note that the vast majority of “carnies” are plastered drunk while operating this machinery.

Heh. Probably right. A lot of them are wanted someplace or on the run from child support or whatever. Or are felons who live outside the mainstream in the relative anonymity of the carny gypsy lifestyle.

I’ve never been able to bring myself to ride carnival rides. On one hand, I don’t like to ride in/on anything I’m not personally operating (I’m never a passenger in a car). On the other hand, I look at the crack squad of savvy, motivated personnel they’ve got running the rides and setting them up and I’d just as soon not take the risk.

One week ago today, I was with my daughter, three granddaughters and grandson in Jackson, California. We went to a local Founder’s Day celebration where they had one of these Carnivals, maybe the same one, I don’t know; but, my 16 year-old grandson refued to ride and told me that he didn’t like the looks of the ride equipment and didn’t think they were safe.
True story!

My daughter was a dealerthere, she’s a nurse now. I was born in Reno, my Uncle worked fpr Bill Harrah and my mother worked in a Bingo Hall when I was born. But, I rarely gamble and I am too cheap to lose much money.
