The UN Is Coming For The Guns

I’d like to point out one thing to the UN:
Violence predates gun by thousands of years.

Decreasing violence is a worthy goal, but removing one tool won’t do that. Especially since the human race has showns an incredibly effecient ability to creat tools, especially those used to do violence.

On a side note: I’d love to watch UN peacekeepers try to disarm downtown Detroit.

Hell, I’d like to watch the UN Peacekeepers try to disarm rural North Dakota.

But basically your argument boils down to this: Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.  Plus, we’ll never get rid of all of the guns.  You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.  All these laws and resolutions do is take the guns from law-abiding citizens while leaving them in the hands of those who could care less what the law says on the matter.

This isn’t a news story, BTW. It’s a press release from a rabid unlimited-firepower-for-criminals-and-the-mentally-ill gun nut group.

I realize your belief in press releases is unshakeable, robby, but others might want to know that it’s HIGHLY suspect.

Don, press releases are perfectly legitimate topics for blogging.

Unlike the New York Times, which is basically one giant press release every morning for the Democratic National Committee.

Luckily, the UN is too stupid to realize that treaties don’t overrule Constitutions in the United States, and neither do we have self-executing treaties, meaning, in order for them to even have rule of law in the US, we have to decide by act of Congress that they have rule of law.

Under our own Constitution, international treaties that we sign (like we’d sign this one anyway) have the effect of federal laws, not Constitutional amendment, anyway. Even if they DID get lucky enough to supercede the Second, they’d still have to deal with that pesky federalism.

In New Orleans it was the locals cops who confiscated weapons.

This has been bobbing around in the UN since the ‘60s. Nothing new or innovative. It just gets reworded and slung at the wall every 5 years or so.
