President Bush could have declared the state of Louisiana in rebellion.  That way he would have had the authority to send in federal troops without the governor’s request.

I’m pretty sure the liberals would have accepted that just fine.

Whistler- You are correct.
The story is, they are trying their hardest to blame President Bush for something.  The NYT stopped being a news paper sometime during the late 1920s.  They are trying to find some splinter in his eye, but can’t see the log in their own.

I watched, through ACCUWeather, the entire Katrina sequence. I have family living, not just in MS, also St. Bernard, Plaquemans, and La Fouches Parishes. The ACoE has been telling anyone who would stand still for a 10th of a second since the 30’s that this shit was going to happen. As governor of Tejas W pushed a program that strengthened levees in coastal counties. Louisianna refused to participate. Exactly how was that George’s fault?

Rep. Barney Frank thinks that hurricane relief is not moving ahead quickly enough and that’s fair criticism. Implying that the slower than desired rebuilding is due to "ethnic cleansing" is, however, incindiary and involves the ugly smear of racism. This is the kind of extreme, devisive and scorched-earth politics the congressman is known for. I should know. I am his Republican opponent in Massachusetts.
