Basically, government mandates relating to ethanol have done almost nothing to increase the availability of fuel…
Thereby raising the price.

Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.

In the attempt to solve a problem, we have created another problem and still have the original problem.

That’s the problem with government. Unless it is a problem solvable by war, government isn’t really good at getting any job done. Serving in Washington doesn’t endow one with knowledge, contrary to what the Congress and Senate critters believe.

True; being elected or selected to govt doesn’t make one wise and all-knowing, not to mention altruistic.
You can make a much better case for the opposite, actually.

The ethanol rules were nothing more than a victory for Agri-business. I would be all in favor of ethanol, if all ethanol production facilities ran on ethanol! But the reality is it takes more gas to create ethanol from corn than the gas replaced by the ethanol.

And one more thing
Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.
The energy bill of 2005 was a REPUBLICAN bill! They had the majority in Congress, Senate and a GOP President. I am sure you blame the extreme power of the minority for shoving this terrible policy down the ruling parties throat.
Of course if the GOP aren’t capable of implementing their policies while in complete control, are they ever going to be capable of doing ANYTHING?

Again, you blame the wrong people. The ethanol rules were written at the behest and guidance from misguided enviros whose real intent was to damage the oil companies. Lefties just hate successful businesses that are rich because they made the investment to give the people something they want. I reinforces the success of the free enterprise system, which the enviros want to destroy. Happy, wealthy, independent people are very hard to limit and collectivize. If you want to create a revolution, first create dissatisfaction by destroying success and happiness in every way you can.

I am not sure who these “misguide enviros” are!
Another sign of progress is that some environmentalists have recognized one “renewable” source of energy as a scam. “We count corn-based ethanol as unsustainable energy,” says Morgan. She’s right. Ethanol mandates in the United States are nothing more than disguised subsidies to farmers and corporate ethanol producers like Archer Daniels Midland. Growing corn to produce ethanol is a costly and environmentally stupid way to produce fuel.
And exactly why would the GOP give ANYTHING to a lobby that has bashed them at every turn?
This was GOP handout to agri-business/farmer pure and simple.

Again you show your ignorance by confusing cause and effect. The distortion of the market to favor agribusiness is an unintended consequence of the real cause: the attempt to control the lives of Americans through agendized legislation. The enviros intended to cripple the oil companies, but instead ended up enriching agribusiness at the expense of the American citizen. The only effect they had on the oil companies was to increase their bottom line, which is the exact opposite of what they intended. Govt interference in the market always works that way, because individual businessmen are much smarter than politicians and environmental activists.
