There’s always graduate school.
Walt: Dad, what’s gradual school?
Garp: Gradual school?
Walt: Yeah. Mom says her work’s more fun now that she’s teaching
gradual school.
Garp: Oh. Well, gradual school is someplace you go and gradually
find out that you don’t want to go to school anymore..

I realized this my senior year of college when doing peer reviews.
I’m not a grammerical expert, but from what I saw 3/4 of college seniors write at an 8th grade or lower level.

I wanted to read this, but couldn’t get past that big “u” word in the second line.

I am sure J.R.R. Tolkien would be proud to know you can not read his books. WOOO!

Be interesting to see how the literacy stats rank by college discipline (engineering, liberal arts, english, etc.). When I did my undergraduate engineering work in the late 50s, all the dumb and/or lazy kids majored in liberal arts.

I think education has a lot of people’s attention right now because of John Stossel’s report on education for 20/20. It was great stuff (the clips I’ve seen) and really got a lot of people thinking.

I will see if Wifey will burn you a disc of it. It will have comercials, guess we can’t have everything. Though I don’t like Stossel, the piece was very good, it made the points that most parents have tried to communicate to their local school boards for the last 20 years. And appearently failed to get across for the last 20 years. Perhaps CBS’s mediocre production qualities will get the message across. Though I seriuosly doubt it.

This is a sure sign that we really need to spend more time teaching these kids Intelligent Design. As long as both schools of thought are presented in an unbiased and un-endorsed manner, why not?
