If Russia does end up being an ally with the U.S. in the War on Terror, their brutal force would have a decisive effect and it would be only good news for the United States regarding such.  No more Abu Ghraib.  No more whispers of torture from the U.S.  Russia would be in the house.

The decisiveness Russia would bring would certainly be refreshing.  The United States has a tendency to start out strong but get gun shy as politicians begin to fear another anti-war backlash like the one we saw in Vietnam.  And the one we’re seeing now.

Though, from a standpoint of not wanting to see torture or brutal tactics used by any country, I hope Russia can be decisive without being cruel.

I agree completely.  There are limits in military force that the United States can do, most striking in an election year.  This is the Achille’s Heal of the American military.

I do not wish for Russian atrocities, however you and I both know that there will be several stories that rise regarding such whether or not they are true or not.  They have been so in Chechnya for a decade and they would be wherever Russia sends troops.

I hope that Russia gives us an example of how it should be done.  I’m not saying it’s time for the gulag, but our politically correct war on terror isn’t going to cut it.

"Welcome to the War”?

Chechens have been fighting Russia since the 1870’s, when they annexed Chechnya.

After the fall of the USSR, Chechnya declared independence in 1991. In 1994, Russia sent troops to take it back. Quite a bit more than 200 people died—over 100,000, in fact. Russia torturered and raped the populace into submission. Uncovered mass graves filled with mutilated bodies attest to this. Graves filled with bodies, not CD’s filled with naughty pictures.

This is not terrorism. This is a war for independence. Russia is only putting on spin and using the popular T word to garner international support for their expansionist goals.

From what I gather, you don’t really seem to care that innocent Russian kids are being killed. It’s more important that we win another ally to progress our goals—if a few innocents die, so be it…

No one was putting the spin of islamic terror on it - especially no one in the U.S.  I also realize that the islamists are working in concert with the “independence” fighters - it’s two groups brought together by their common enemy.  By your logic, defeating islamic terror means that I “don’t care about innocent Russian children.” It’s exactly the opposite - the islamofascists must be stopped to protect the innocents.  Your viewpoint that it’s fine and dandy to slaughter russian children if it’s in the name of independence.

This is not terrorism.

You don’t think that taking a school full of children hostage and threatening to kill them unless your political goals are met is terrorism?
