Every time I hear something from Rev. Wright, I expect that this time, maybe this time, the MSM will actually go, “Hey, you know what? That Rev. Wright is a crackpot racist. Maybe we need to ask Obama more pointed questions...”
Then I wake up and realize it will never happen.

Foot, proof? This guy is nibbling on his kneecaps.
I thought that my misspent youth had given me quite a range of ethnic slurs to avoid using. While that’s entirely true, I must thankfully concede that Rev. Wright knows better than I.
And from the pulpit. Yeesh!

Rob,
As an American of Italian heritage, as a Christian who knows full well the Roman culpability in the killing of Christ, and as an intelligent person who has witnessed your slander of numerious ethnic and racial groups, I have to ask that you save your pearl clutching and faux outrage.
Please.

As an American of Italian heritage, as a Christian who knows full well the Roman culpability in the killing of Christ, and as an intelligent person…
Two out of three, maybe?
So, you equate “Roman” with “Italian”? That would come as quite a surprise to many Romans, I’m afraid!
The Apostle Paul (of Tarsus), for example, was a Roman citizen. Perhaps as “an intelligent person”, you would be so kind as to tell us exactly which part of Italy Tarsus is in?
Faux outrage trumps faux intelligence any day of the week!
Proof - 10:03am on 03/26/2008
Proof-
Good to see you’re conceding that Rob’s outrage is faux.
I’m certainly privledged to defend my ancestry on a thread where the first post is a freaking caricature. But what the hell, you seem to be a particularly ignorant person, and informing you on aspects of the tribe that gave you the alphabet you struggle with could be my good deed for the day.
I’ve read Cicero, Virgil, and Levy; I’ve been to the Colloseo and the Pantheon and walked in the footsteps of my ancestors. Proof, they happened to be in Rome. I might be mistaken, but I seemed to remember Rome being in Italy.
As for your Paul of Tarsus diversion, I’d be happy to direct your attention to Gibbon; he does a good job of explaining the nuances of Roman citizenship and the Latin Right and the castes of ancient Roma. But then, you’d have to be more intellectually curious and honest than you actually are, so I’ll leave you with this very apt metaphor in the form of a question:
Proof, you are aware that folks born in Puerto Rico are American citizens, right?
So tell me, Proof, what works of antiquity are you familiar with? Did you go to the Olive Garden for some hospitaliano, and now you’re a professor of classical studies? Did you watch season two of Everybody Loves Raymond and now you are a certified ethnologist and geneologist?

Then you would know that Italian as a national identity is really a pretty modern phenomenon, wouldn’t you, *, to the point that when Italy won the World Cup, it was the first time many of her citizens knew what their flag looked like?
Right?
Personally, I’m at a loss to say where our gracious host may have slandered any ethnic group. Perhaps you should provide some evidence.
At the very least, it doesn’t rise to the level of what Rev. Wright is doing.

BB-
“Italian” as an ethnicity is “modern” in precisely the same way “German” is an ethnicity that is “modern.” Sure there were Teuts, Saxons, Engles, etc back in the day, but you ask any Bavarian or Prussian how they feel about being the only nationality not colonized and subjugated by a certain Italian tribe back in the day, they certainly revel in a certain national pride. At least the Germans and German-American’s I’ve asked feel that way.
Unanimously.
Perhaps you and Proof can go meet in your local liberry and pull a few books about antiquity. Perhaps a discussion which particular peninsula granted automatic Roman citizenship to those born to free citizens on that peninsula.
Now, if Italy hadn’t already won the world cup in 1934, 1938, & 1982, you might have a point (whatever the hell that is), about the flag being ‘new’ to ‘Italians.’
Speaking of world cup, maybe you can go on the googles and perhaps learn why their team color isn’t on their flag. Here’s a hint: it is from an Italian royal family, whose historical roots are tied to principalities not completely inside Italy anymore.
Does that mean the House of Savoy is not Italian? By using the same ‘logic’ you and Proof are implying here about Rome, the answer is no.
You may be asking yourself, “Well then, why does Italy wear azure as a team color?”
The answer lies in the fact that Italians are not as ignorant about their history as you two are.
As for evidence of slander? Geez. I’m not opening that door. I’ve got certain, um reservations about that.
Get it?
No?
Look at the ITALIcized words for a clue.
Some communities don’t like it when Rob speaks for them, whether they’re from Federal Hill or Turtle Mountain.
