While the article doesn’t say so, it would appear from her name, that the young girl is of Arabic heritage, probably Egyptian, adding not only poignancy to the soldier’s gift to her, but to her winning letter as well.

Trackey, of Glens Falls, said he received the medal for the shoulder and head wounds he suffered when a bomb went off near him in Baghdad in January 2005. Trackey said his Purple Heart was just collecting dust at home.
If Bush hadn’t sent him there, he wouldn’t have had the injuries. And thousands would still be alive. And there are no medals for the innocent Iraqis who have wounds and who have died because of the Bush immoral war.
